Biking the Baja Divide, Part II: San Ignacio to LaPaz
Leaving San Ignacio after some time off, we were ready to be moving againAfter a day of cycling, we came to Laguna San Ignacio. Grey whales spend their winters in this area after migrating south from Alaska. There are multiple whale watching tour companies based out of this area.Fidgit and I decided to go on a whale watching tour with one of the companies.Whale fluke. These large mammals aren’t afraid of the small boats, and the boatmen are careful to watch their propellers. Many of the whales are curious. This baby whale is checking us out- its mother is just below the surface! After whale watching, we got back on our bikes and continued our own journey south. We crossed many dry(ish) sandswept areasThese red colors among the plants were intriguingThe trend of the government announcing road improvements continues- we’ve seen these in nearly every country.Just south of San Juanico, a gentleman who goes by ‘Earthquake’ has a ranch. He rescues animals and his surfing goat is famous! Check out the video Fidgit made about it on our YouTube channel: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=_SEdReX9398&t=2sSome views from the road to Earthquake’s ranchSunrise on our longest day- 120(ish) km into Ciudad ConstitucionIn the desert heat, water is amazingly refreshingNeon and Fidgit, letting the fish nibble our toesAfter a long and steep ascent, I was grateful to be greeting with this view and descentCycling into the sunsetWe found this amazing swimming hole after seeing it marked on one of our map Apps.
