In late March 2020 the Her Odyssey team were in Aguascalientes, Mexico along the bikepacking portion of the human powered endeavor to cross the Americas when the news and social repercussions of COVID-19 began affecting our progress and safety. We discussed the reality that the fearful reactions we had begun to see from locals may well be founded as we had no way of knowing whether we were carrying the virus. We consulted with our health and security advisors and made the decision to return to the United States, until such a time as it is safe and prudent to resume.
Route to Date: 14,000 miles completed
Red-Hiking; Orange-Bikepacking; Blue- Paddling
What we had initially thought would be a matter of waiting out a couple months is becoming a longer stretch due to ongoing health and safety concerns, seasons, and border closures. We remain busy working on other aspects of the endeavor, focusing on the storytelling and community building components. We’ve been working on website development, giving interviews, writing, route development, and a couple special projects. Several are still underway and under wraps but here are two we are excited to announce now!
- We recently chatted with Bob at the Outdoors station, which is “the worlds longest running independent producer of broadcast quality podcasts for the adventurer, the long distance hiker, the backpacker, the camper, in fact anyone seeking an independent life in the outdoors as a self powered traveler.” This week he released Pt. 1 of this 2 part conversation and you can give it a listen here:
2. A project we are really excited about and which is only available for a limited time is our Share Your Story, T-Shirt campaign! Neon modeled the tank top cut on a recent hike through the Bob Marshall Wilderness.

For the next two weeks you can support our odyssey by picking yours up here!
We’ve picked We Got Next to be the recipients of the Pay it Forward portion from our income off this project because we like their story telling oriented, grassroots style, mission which “amplifies individual stories of adventure and activism from communities that have been underrepresented in outdoor and environmental spaces.”
