I too, will follow your journey for the next five years. Please keep a journal of successes and failures for all future hikers as there is not really anything out there. And bring extra shoes.

You give a whole new insight on what “Inspiration” is. How refreshing!

What an incredible adventure, very inspiring stuff. Who knows, our paths may even cross at some point…I’m taking on a similar journey, from Antarctica to the Arctic through the Americas – although I’m ‘cheating’ and using all travel means except flight. Good luck, and if we’re in the same place at some point I’ll get you all a drink! Tom

  7. Cargo says:

Good luck Fidget. Maybe I’ll see you on the trail. I leave Ushuaia, heading north to Barrow on December 14.
Sun on your face, wind at your back. Cargo

Thanks to both of you fearless ladies for being such an inspiration. I was wondering where you got your topographic maps and if you carried paper copies as well? Happy hiking!! XxShannon

      (Is this MY PCT Shannon?)

As to the maps, we cobble together whatever we can. Most of the time, when we are away from the beaten track we rely on GPS and hand drawn maps from locals in my pocket notebook. When we are headed into park areas or frequently hiked routes we can find decent maps at outdoor shops in the surrounding areas. Through most of Chile and Argentina we carried roadmaps (the Chilean COPEC maps were actually quite good!) to orient by towns and for general information gathering.

Besides that, I draw routes on and have Google Earth Pro saved to my phone so we use that to orient and double check our GPS when we are mapless. We’ll have a blog about that process coming out soon!
